About this place
Some visitors have enjoyed the kinako-flavoured ice cream enough to say they would have it again. Randen-ya serves soft ice cream in Kyoto kinako, alongside special Uji matcha from Kyoto and hojicha made with Kyoto Koyamaen tea. It is an appealing selection if you are looking for flavours associated with Kyoto.
Another sweet option is Cremia, served in a langue de chat cone. The menu also lists The Chocolat and The Chocolat Mix, both in chocolate langue de chat cones, making the cone part of the choice as well.
There are savoury bites, too, suited to a break during a stroll around Arashiyama. One visitor said the rice ball wrapped in meat they ordered was on the large side, making it a heartier alternative to ice cream. Randen-ya is inside Arashiyama Station Hannari Hokkori Square, with both dine-in and takeaway available. Depending on your mood, you can enjoy soft serve during your walk or take a meat-wrapped rice ball to go.
